No. 14 BYU Sweeps Air Force, 3-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --U.S.A.F Academy, Colo. - Sunny Tonga recorded 14 kills and Jackie Bundy added 11 as No. 14 Brigham Young defeated Air Force Thursday night in a Mountain West Conference volleyball match, 15-3, 15-7, 15-7, at the Academy's East Gym.
Tonga and Bundy each had a game-high six block assists as well, and the Cougars tallied 22 as a team en route to their eighth straight win against Mountain West Conference opponents. BYU improved to 19-6 overall and 11-2 in the MWC.
Air Force, 6-19 overall and 0-13 in the MWC, jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first game, only to have the Cougars score the next 14 points, sparked by Nina Puikkonen's four kills and Tonga's four block assists. The Cougars collected 10 block assists in each of the first two games.
BYU stormed to a 5-0 lead in the second game, and led comfortably throughout. Bundy had five kills in game two, and Puikkonen and Tonga each added four. BYU had a .486 hitting percentage in the second game, with 22 kills and only four errors. The Cougars collected 60 kills for the match, and committed only 12 errors for a .462 hitting percentage.
The Falcons held a 3-2 lead in the third game, only to see BYU pull away late, with Tonga serving the last three points to seal the match. Delavane Diaz led the Falcons with 11 kills, followed by Jamie Rempel's 10 kills. Brandi Raifsnider tied Tonga with a game-high seven digs, and Kristin Huitt had 26 assists for Air Force.
The Falcons play their final regular season match Friday night at home against the University of Utah in the East Gym beginning at 7 p.m.
