BYU Sweeps Swim Meet with Falcons

BYU's men claimed victories in 11 of the 13 races, with Air Force's Mason Phelps capturing the 200-yard butterfly in a time of one minute, 53.12 seconds, and John Dayton winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:05.26, tying the seventh best time in school history and the team's best this season. Dayton added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.90.
Two other team season-bests were recorded by Air Force, including Charlie Toth's time of 45.75 in the 100-yard freestyle, good for second place, and James McCroan's 9:50.19 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, giving him second place.
The host Cougars were led by Arunas Savickas and Gary Tan, each claiming two individual events and forming half of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.
The BYU women were just as dominant, winning 10 of the 13 events. Codi Jensen led the Cougars with victories in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events.
Recording first-place finishes for the Falcons were Karley Kroschel, who won the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:13. 98 and Meredith Beavers, who claimed the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:38.88. Sarah Thilo had two second-places for Air Force, in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, and diver Sarah Law finished second in both the 1- and 3-meter springboard events.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow (Jan. 13) when they take on the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
