USAFA, Colo. (Oct. 12) - The Air Force volleyball team suffered another bitter conference loss, falling to Wyoming in three games (19-30, 31-33, 19-30). The Falcons are winless in their six Mountain West conference matches.
The Falcons started slowly, losing by 11 points in game one. But they rebounded in game two, and it looked like they would even the match score at one apiece. With a 30-29 lead, the team served for the victory. Wyoming won the point and went on to win the game. Air Force would never recover, as the dejected team looked flat in its game three loss.
Wyoming had a solid night offensively, hitting .389. The Cowgirls had 57 kills on 108 attacks with just 15 errors. Four players finished in double figures in kills, including Michele Rauter, Sara Maytorena and Vanessa Latimer, who each had 12.
Delavane Diaz led the Falcons with 13 kills. For the first time this season, Brandi Raifsnider led the team in digs, notching six on the night. The team finished the match with a .170 hitting percentage (106a-20e-38k).
The loss not only keeps the Falcons (1-12, 0-6 MWC) winless in conference play, but also winless in their home gym, the Cadet East Gymnasium. They face a tough opponent tomorrow night (Oct. 13) when they host No. 8 Colorado State. Match time is 7 p.m.
