Air Force freshman forward Jennifer Rowland scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Falcons beat Arizona, 2-1, Sunday, Oct. 7, in a non-conference women's soccer match at the Academy's Cadet Soccer Stadium.
In the 95th minute, Beth Boyer chipped a ball in the penalty box and Rowland dribbled toward the goal. The Wildcat keeper, Shannon Monti, came out and Rowland dribbled past her and punched in the game-winner.
Air Force jumped on the board early on a goal by Elaine Tatarek in the seventh minute. Wendy Emminger's header was saved by Monti, but Tatarek cleaned up the rebound for her first career goal. The game remained tied until the 69:40 mark when Wildcat forward Liz Bartlett scored her third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams had several quality chances in the final 10 minutes of the game. Air Force out-shot Arizona, 20-16 overall and 10-9 on goal. Monti made seven saves in the game while Falcon keeper Jennifer Monson made eight.
Air Force improved to 5-5-1 overall this season while Arizona fell to 3-5-1.
The Falcons return to action Friday, Oct. 12, against Colorado College at Sky Sox Soccer Stadium.
