About The Meet:
The Air Force men and women's gymnastics teams suffered narrow losses this weekend to the University of Illinois at Chicago in Ill. this past weekend. In Friday's competition, the men's team fell to the UIC Flames, 196.150-194.050. UIC beat out the lady Falcons in Friday's competition, 194.025-189.050. In Sunday's competition, the men's squad lost to the Flames, 203.750-199.050. UIC edged by the Air Force women in Sunday's competition, 193.050-192.575.
The Men:
Despite Air Force's loss to UIC in this weekend's meet, the Falcons had an outstanding performance by the men's team, with Academy gymnasts placing within the top-three in each event during Friday's competition. Top finishers included C1C (senior) Levi Torkelson who finished first on parallel bars (8.400) and pommel horse (8.050), tying for third on the floor exercise with C3C (sophomore) Justin Jones (8.500); C2C (junior) Matt Kenkel finished second on rings (8.500) and C2C Stephen Sistaire finished third (8.300). C3C Aaron Jackson took second on the horizontal bar (8.100); and C1C Andrew Fisher placed third on vault (8.800).
The Women:
The Air Force women's team had an outstanding performance in Friday's competition as well. C3C Jennifer Dougherty was the Falcon's top finisher Friday, placing third on the uneven bars (9.750). C3C Kimberly Broughton tied for fifth place on the floor exercise (9.700), taking the fifth-place slot behind C2C (junior) Bethany Stott on balance beam (9.700).
The Men: In Sunday's competition the men's squad stepped up their performance level but still fell short. Jackson finished strong on the floor exercise, taking second-place (8.850), with Torkelson and C2C James Hayes tying for third (8.650). Torkelson also finished first on parallel bars and took third place on pommel horse (8.200). On rings, Fisher finished second (8.700), also tying for fourth on vault (8.750). Matt Kenkel took third on parallel bars (8.250)
The Women: UIC edged by the Air Force women's team in Sunday's competition. The Falcons had another outstanding performance with gymnasts placing within the top-three in three of the four events. Broughton took the top slot on the uneven bars with a score of 9.775. C2C Courtney Hamrick followed her with a score of 9.725 for fourth place was C1C Elizabeth Weber finished second on vault (9.725) followed by C4C (freshman) Erin Maguire for third (9.700) and Stott for fourth (9.650). C1C Amy Hultin had an amazing performance on balance beam taking second (9.825), with Hamrick placing fourth (9.775). On the floor exercise, Maguire finished strong, scoring a 9.800 for a second-place finish. Stott finished fourth (9.750).
