A banquet honoring the Air Force women's basketball team will feature two-time Olympic gold medallist Ruthie Bolton-Holifield as the keynote speaker.
Bolton-Holifield was a member of the U.S. National team which won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She was also a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team that won the gold medal in Atlanta and the 1995-96 USA Basketball Women's National team that went 52-0 in preparation for the Olympics.
Last year, Bolton-Holifield led the WBNA's Sacramento Monarchs to the 2000 playoffs. She ranked 20th in the WNBA in points per game with 13.1 and she ranked ninth in the league in three point field goals made with 50. She also recently retired from the Army Reserves.
"It is a great honor for us to have Ruthie visit Colorado Springs and address our players, staff and fans," said Air Force head coach Sue Darling. "We wanted her to come because she has had a successful career not only in basketball, but also in the military."
The banquet is scheduled for Monday, March 19, at the Holiday Inn of Colorado Springs. Dinner is scheduled for 5 p.m., and tickets are $25. Air Force head coach Sue Darling is inviting those who wish to listen to Bolton-Holifield to come at 6 p.m., free of charge.
