Head Coach Lou Burkel On The USAG Collegiate National Championships

The Women: They did a great job on Thursday and won the prelims and the right to compete for the team championship on Friday night. They advanced eight gymnasts to the finals and had three gymnasts in the top eight all around, resulting in 11 USAG All Americans (the top eight women on each event are All-Americans):
All Around: C3C (So.) Jenn Dougherty, C1C (Sr.) Kristi Delcour and C3C Kim Broughton. Vault: C1C Elizabeth Weber. Bars: C3C Allison Todd and Broughton. Beam: C3C Courtney Hamrick, Delcour and C2C (Jr.) Beth Stott (First Place!!!). Floor: Delcour and Dougherty.
Our women's team really had a dream season, and as a result, Lisa Woody won the NCAA Regional and USAG National Coach of the Year awards. We graduate four seniors who have been instrumental in the success of our program, and we will miss them a lot -- team captain Jenn Glomb, Kristi Delcour, Amy Hultin and Elizabeth Weber.
The Men: We had a blizzard on Wednesday, and could not leave until Thursday night because of it. Making a long story short, we ended up arriving at our hotel at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, getting a small amount of sleep and warming up at 10 a.m. Nonetheless, the guys put together a great effort and logged their highest away score of the season - 201.625 - to finish fourth. William & Mary again won the championship with a 204.6. We advanced eight gymnasts to the finals and five earned USAG All American honors (top six on each event): C3C Justin Jones, sixth on floor; C2C Stephen Sistare, second and C2C Matt Kenkel, sixth on rings; C1C Andrew Fisher, sixth on vault; Kenkel, third on parallel bars; C3C Aaron Jackson, eighth on floor; C3C Scott Lewis, seventh on parallel bars; and Levi Torkelson eighth on high bar.
The men also graduate four seniors who will be greatly missed: Schan Daniel, team captain Andrew Fisher, Devin Ryan, and Levi Torkelson.
