Air Force Falls To UC Irvine In Season Opener

U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 loss to UC Irvine in the Falcon Invitational Tournament, Sept. 1, at the Academy's Cadet Soccer Stadium.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, Aug. 31, but was postponed due to severe lightning.
UCI, 1-0, opened the scoring in the 27th minute as Sarah Halpenny scored from Natalie Franklin. The Falcons, 0-1, tied the score at 1-1 in the second half as Christine Miller scored from Beth Boyer. The Anteaters netted the game-winner in the 67th minute on Julie Scheppele's first goal of the season.
The annual Falcon Invitational concludes Sunday, Sept. 2. UCI faces Dayton at 11 a.m. while Air Force plays Oregon State at 1 p.m.
