Volleyball Team Falls to UNLV, 3-1

USAFA, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team played tough, but lost to UNLV in four games, falling 18-30, 30-22, 25-30 and 27-30.
Despite the defeat, the Falcons played solid throughout the match After falling behind 1-9 in the opening game, the Falcons settled down and played even with the Rebels the remainder of the game. They dominated the second game, winning handily. The game-two victory snapped a string of 12 consecutive conference matches without a win. Although they challenged the Rebels in both the third and fourth games, they could not maintain momentum and UNLV escaped with the wins.
Three Falcon hitters finished the game in double figures. Kaitlin McEwen led all players with 17 kills, while Delavane Diaz had 16 kills and team captain Gina Marino had 10 kills. Christina Nigro and Kristin Huitt each had 13 digs. Huitt added 36 assists for her sixth double-double of the season. The team combined for a season high 20 block assists.
Leiana Oswald had 15 kills on 44 attempts and Blair Wilkes added 14 kills for the Rebels.
The loss extended the conference-losing streak to 19 matches for the Falcons (1-8, 0-2 MWC), who will next travel to Utah to take on two ranked opponents. They face Utah on Friday, Sept. 28 and BYU on Saturday, Sept. 29. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
