Oklahoma Dominates Rocky Mountain Open Event Finals

The University of Oklahoma dominated the tournament, winning the team competition Friday evening (214.325) and securing many of the top-finishing slots in the event finals Saturday afternoon including three first-place finishes- Jock Stevens on floor (9.675) and vault (9.550), and Brett Covey on rings (9.500). The Sooners had ten top-five finishers in addition to their three champions.
The Falcons qualified three gymnasts to the event finals Friday evening- C2C (So.) Aaron Jackson on floor (8.850) and co-captains C1Cs James Hayes and Matthew Kenkel who tied on pommel horse (8.400). Unfortunately, Air Force was unable to place during the second day of competition.
Nebraska's Grant Clinton placed first on parallel bars (9.125), and Iowa's Don Jackson and Justin Leavitt took top honors on pommel horse (9.400) and hi bar (9.300).
The Air Force women's team will finish out the evening at 7 p.m. when it hosts Illinois State and Winona State in the final competition of the Rocky Mountain Open. The Air Force men's team will be back in action again next weekend when the Falcons host UC Santa Barbara and Texas Woman's Univ. in co-ed meet Feb. 1 and 3. Friday's meet begins at 7:30 p.m.
