The Air Force women's basketball kicked off the new year with a 25-point victory over Army, 77-52. Twelve of 13 Falcon players scored, as the team notched its highest scoring output of the season. It was the team's largest margin of victory of the season.
Things looked bleak early for Air Force, as the team made just one of its first 14 shots. After nine minutes, the Falcons trailed 2-13. After a timeout by head coach Ardie McInelly, the offense came alive. They scored seven straight, then took their first lead of the game off a three-pointer by Ali Tomlinson at the 4:40 mark of the half. They never trailed after that point.
Latoya Howell led the Falcons in scoring with 12 points, and Tomlinson added 10 points. Every player had at least one rebound, with Samantha Clifton leading the way with five. Shanekia Peebles had four steals, as the team combined for 14 takeaways. The Falcons shot 36.5 percent from the floor hitting 23-of-63.
Katie Macfarlane notched a double-double for Army with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Halaevalu Helu added 11 points.
Air Force (3-9, 0-0 MWC) will play its final non-conference game of the season against Navy on Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. The Falcons will be looking to win the women's basketball's version of the Commander-in-Chief trophy with a victory over Navy.
