U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- Freshman Randy Poggio sealed the game for the Spartans with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute to give San Jose State the 4-2 win Sunday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at the Academy's Cadet Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore Marcus Sagastume scored the opening goal for Air Force in the second minute, with an assist from sophomore Tino Diaz. The Spartans answered at the 17-minute mark with a header from freshman Randy Poggio to tie the game halfway through the first period. Freshman Colin Eames put the Falcons up again when he scored a goal in the 28th minute, with an assist from senior Daniel Wassson.
San Jose shut out Air Force in the second half. The Spartans scored early in the second half for the tie when freshman Johnny Gonzalez netted a blocked corner kick. Junior Tomislav Jozinovic scored another goal for San Jose State in the 70th minute to put the Spartans up before Poggio's second goal.
San Jose State (6-7) had 13 shots with five of them goal, while Air Force had 12 shots with eight of them on goal.
The Falcons are 7-6-1 overall and 1-1 in MPSF action this season. Air Force travels to Albuquerque, NM to face New Mexico Friday, Oct. 25.
