The University of New Mexico men's soccer team defeated Air Force, 5-1, Friday at the UNM Complex in Albuquerque, NM. The Lobos (12-2-0, 2-0-0 MPSF) got goals from five different players on the way to their first win over Air Force (7-7-1, 1-2) since the 1995 season.
In just the fifth minute, Junro Narita sent a cross from the right side to Javier Carrasco who one-timed it past Falcon keeper Mike Taylor for a 1-0 lead.
Narita struck next, with a score off a direct kick from just outside the box in the 39th minute. Just before halftime, UNM tacked on another goal when Narita fed sophomore Eric Carlson for a shot from the right side. Taylor was able to stop Carlson's shot, but freshman Jeff Rowland was there to put in the rebound for his first score as a Lobo.
In the second half, New Mexico continued to mount an impressive offense. In the 60th minute, freshman Sam Suflita got a shot off that was stopped by the Air Force defense, but the Falcons couldn't clear the ball and Carlson put in the rebound. Freshman Ryan McVay finished off the Lobo scoring with an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute for his first strike of the season.
The Falcons averted a shutout as Daniel Wasson fired in his fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute. Air Force put up a fight in the second half, firing 15 shots in the period.
Air Force continues MPSF play on Sunday at UNLV, beginning at 1 p.m. MT.
