The Air Force women's basketball team notched an impressive 25-point victory Saturday night, downing Sacramento State 86-61. It was the Falcons' highest scoring game of the season and their fifth victory of the season, as the team surpassed last year's win total in just the eighth game of the year.
Air Force led by eight at the break, then steadily increased its lead throughout the second half. Air Force shot .469 (30-for-64) from the field, its second-best shooting percentage of the year. They forced 20 turnovers and notched 11 steals in the win. The Hornets were just 19-for-68 (.279 percent) from the field. They made just three three-pointers on 22 attempts.
LaToya Howell notched her third double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 11 assists. With a career-high 11 assists, Howell set a new Air Force single game (Division I) record. She also added five steals. Wendy Stillman also had a double-double, notching 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Shawna Neff added 15 points for the Falcons.
Four Hornets finished in double figures in scoring, led by Sarah Craig who notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Gatson added 14 points, while Diane Peterson chipped in 12.
The Falcons, who improve to 5-3 overall, are off to their best start in Division I history. The 86 points scored ties a Division I record for most points in a game. They will look to continue their winning way on Monday, Dec. 30th, when Air Force hosts Weber State on Dec. 30th. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. MST.
