MPSF Men's Event Finals

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- Jock Stevens of Oklahoma won the floor competition with a 9.450 during Saturday afternoon's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's gymnastics event finals in the Cadet Gymnasium's West Gym. The Sooners placed eight gymnasts within the top three during the finals and OU head coach Mark Williams was named MPSF Coach of the Year.
Cal Berkeley's Aaron Floyd finished second on floor with a 9.275 and Josh Landis of Oklahoma took third with a 9.050. Landis won on pommel horse with 9.500, edging out David Eaton and Suhail Arastu of Cal with a 9.475 and a 9.200.
Stanford's Marshall Erwin and Oklahoma's Brett Covey tied for first on rings with a 9.900, followed by Sooner Jim Lovelady with a 9.500. Nebraska's Josh Rasile hit on vault to take first with a 9.500. Dan Gill of Stanford placed second with a 9.450 followed by OU's Jock Stevens with a 9.400. Cal's David Eaton tied for first on high bar with Oklahoma's Everette Bierker with a 9.300. Sooner Ryan Hillyer finished third with a 9.250. Stanford's David Durante took third on parallel bars (8.700) and Bierker finished second (8.900). Cody Moore of Cal won on parallel bars with a 9.150. Moore was also named MPSF Gymnast of the Year.
The MPSF championships continue Saturday evening with the women's team, all around and event finals. The women's meet features Air Force, UC-Santa Barbara, Sacramento State, UC Davis, and San Jose State. The action begins at 7 p.m. in Cadet Gymnasium's West Gym.
