Sophomore Marcus Sagastume and senior David Auston scored first half goals and senior goalie Mike Taylor made nine saves as the Air Force men's soccer team defeated Southwest Missouri State, 2-1, Friday at the Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque.
Sagastume scored his second goal in as many games and his third of the season just 8:33 into the game. Sagastume took a cross from freshman Carlos Maqueda and beat SMS goalie Matt Pickens.
Auston notched his second goal of the season just 44 seconds before halftime off assists from junior Casey Chronister and freshman Colin Eames. Taylor made five saves in the first stanza as the Falcons took a 2-0 lead at the break.
Taylor kept it up in the second half until the Bears' Jamal Sutton broke up the shutout with a goal in the 75th minute off a feed from Jason Piepert.
Air Force, 3-3-1 this season, made the most of its opportunities, as the Falcons mustered just five shots on goal, compared to 10 for SMS, which fell to 1-6. The Bears also posted a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Falcons continue action at the Lobo Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 22 against Georgia State.
