Falcons Drop Conference Opener to New Mexico, 93-57

Playing before an intimidating crowd of 13,350 Lobos fans, the Air Force women's basketball team suffered a disappointing 93-57 loss to New Mexico in the team's conference opener. It tied for the most points ever given up by the Falcons since joining the Mountain West.
New Mexico scored the game's first seven points and after just five minutes, Air Force was staring at a double-digit deficit. The Falcons defended the long-range shot in the first half, as New Mexico was just 2-of-10 from beyond the arc. However, the Lobos utilized a fast-break offense en route to 11 lay ups, and they led at they break 50-34.
The Lobos continued their scoring attack in the second half, steadily extending their lead throughout the remainder of the game. They finished the game shooting 56.1 percent (32-of-57) from the field. Mandi Moore led the Lobos with 16 points, adding 12 assists for the double-double. Jordan Adams and Crystal Garcia each added 15 points.
LaToya Howell led the Falcons in scoring with 18 points, followed by Shawna Neff with 13 points. Howell and Emily Gross each had six rebounds to pace the Falcons on the boards. The Falcons finished the game with a 40.3 shooting percentage (25-of-62).
Air Force (6-8, 0-1 MWC) will be on the road again next week for the fourth consecutive weekend. They will head to Laramie on Jan. 23rd for a conference game against Wyoming. They will then face Colorado State on Jan. 25th. The Falcons are still looking for their first conference win under second-year head coach Ardie McInelly.
