Falcons Upend Texas Pan American, 64-61

The Air Force women's basketball team notched a thrilling 64-61 come-from-behind victory over Texas Pan American Thursday night. Trailing the entire game, the Falcons notched their first lead late in the game, then held on for the three-point victory. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and was the team's sixth win of the season, the most wins by any Air Force team at the Division I level.
Air Force started the game sluggishly, steadily falling behind throughout the first half. The Falcons trailed by as much as 14 points. They made a small run at the end of the half to cut into the Lady Broncs' lead, but trailed at the break 37-28.
The Falcons would battle back in the second half. The team chipped away at the deficit before Latoya Howell would nail a three-point field goal at the 8:08 mark to tie the score at 51 apiece. Nearly six minutes later, Air Force would take its first lead of the game on a trey by Shawna Neff, 62-61. Both teams were then held scoreless until Howell sunk two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to give the Falcons a three-point cushion. The Air Force defense caused a turnover on the Lady Broncs' next possession to preserve the lead and give the Falcons the win.
Air Force finished the game shooting 21-for-57 (.368 percent) from the field, including 8-for-21 from beyond the arc. It was their most three-point attempts this season. Neff led the Falcons in scoring with 17 points. Briana Thomas had 10 points, while Howell chipped in 12 points, six steals and six assists.
The Falcons (6-6) continue their Texas road swing on Saturday, Jan. 11th, when they face Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Air Force is 0-2 all time against the Islanders. It will be the Falcons final non-conference game of the season.
