Friday Night Fights returned to the Air Force Academy for the 2003 season on Friday, Oct. 17, as the Falcon boxers took to the ring at the Cadet Gym.
Senior Leif Nordhagen was named the Boxer of the Week, after earning the decision over Clell Knight in the 179-pound division.
"Leif boxed a smart match," AFA head boxing coach Eddie Weichers said,. "Both boxers looked to be in great shape and displayed excellent skills and style for this early in the season. Leif was the effective aggressor and stayed busier than Knight."
On the horizon for Nordhagen is a rematch with Navy's Amir Shareef, who out-pointed Nordhagen in the National finals last year in the 175-pound division. The two service academy boxers will meet at the New York Athletic Club's Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 24.
In other boxing news from Friday night, James Gilchrist (157-lbs.), Geoff Woolf (142-lbs.), James Mitchell (176-lbs.), Augustin Kamdem (179-lbs.) and Will Watson (HYWT) earned wins by decision, as did Austin Street (165-lbs.), Ethan Sabin (195-lbs.), Colin Lafavor (188-lbs) and Dustin Mayne (176-lbs.).
