Top-Seeded Buck Wins Two Matches at ITA Region Championships

Sophomore Shannon Buck won a pair of matches Thursday to advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Buck, the top seed in the tournament, will face Peter Bjork of Colorado at 9:30 a.m., on Friday.
Buck, who received a bye in the first round, defeated Marko Blagojovic of UNLV, 6-3, 6-3, in the second round, then beat Tim Bradshaw, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 32.
Sophomore Trevor Johnson split his two matches on Thursday. He beat Stjpan Beg of New Mexico State in a tough three-setter, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, before falling to Divan Coetzee of New Mexico, the No. 2 seed, 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Tyler McClung lost in the round of 64 to Ben Archer-Clowes of New Mexico State, 7-6, 6-1, on Thursday.
AFA's top two doubles teams will be in action on Friday as well. Buck and McClung, the tournament's No. 5 seed, will face Hans Peter Gaber and Niki Popovic of Denver at 4 p.m., while Johnson and senior Justin Mancinelli will play the second-seeded team of Guillaume Bouvier and Thomas Schoeck of Boise State at 4:30 p.m.
