Air Force Drops Regular Season-Finale at New Mexico, 4-2

Air Force men's tennis fell at New Mexico (8-14, 2-4 MW), 4-2, in Mountain West action Friday afternoon at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium in Albuquerque, NM. The Falcons dropped to 9-12, 2-5 MW after its regular-season finale.

The Falcons were on the wrong end of two long tiebreaker sets at No. 1 singles, that ultimately clinched for the Lobos.

Air Force had just pulled to within one at 3-2 after Matthew Staton rallied to win at No. 6 singles over Connor Dils 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. With a tie score going on at No. 2 between Jack Brown and Philip Bosin, the match hinged on the outcome at No. 1 singles for the Falcons.

AJ Moore fell at No. 1 to Dario Ciobotaru in straight sets that went into double-digit tiebreakers in each set 7-6 (8), 7-6 (12) as UNM clinched the match with the win.

Air Force dropped the doubles point and trailed 2-0 after dropping the first singles match. The Falcons made it 2-1 as Alec Fritzinger won at No. 5 over Tyler Waddock in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-1. New Mexico made it 3-1 with a win at No. 4.

"It was a hard fought match from the guys today," head coach Evan Urbina said. "We didn't play our best in doubles, especially with executing some of the basic fundamentals. However, we fought back in singles to make it close. Every player stepped up and competed. We look forward to the conference tournament next week."

Air Force returns to action at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship, held April 22-24 at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Falcons open play on Wednesday, April 22, at 1 pm PT as the seven-seed vs. the two-seed (opponent TBD).
