Annapolis, MD - Air Force's first intercollegiate boxing test of the 2003-04 season ended in just three victories in 10 bouts against Navy Friday.
Doug Spear, Ryan Dorsey Spits and Augustin Kamdem earned decisions in their three-round bouts. Spear, fighting in the 123-pound weight class, earned Boxer of the Week honors after defeating Navy's Josh Veney.
"Doug used good combinations and was very effective with his jab throughout the bout," said head boxing coach Eddie Weichers, Jr. "He really prepared himself for this bout and it showed throughout the three rounds."
Dorsey Spits defeated Franklin Hernandez in a 156-pound bout while Kamdem, who lost the first round, won the next two over Navy's Chris Lonero in a 180-pound bout.
"I am really not disappointed in the outcome," Weichers said. "I think all of our boxers did a very good job and these bouts were a great learning tool for us as we continue with our season.
