The Air Force men's soccer team lost its second consecutive conference game Friday, dropping a 3-2 decision to San Diego State. The game was rescheduled from Oct. 26 because of the wildfires in the San Diego area and was played at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The Falcons fall to 8-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Falcons scored the game's first goal as junior Marcus Sagastume scored his seventh goal of the season off an assist from junior Daniel Bolin. Air Force took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
San Diego State (8-6-3, 2-1-2) came out on fire in the second half, scoring three goals in the first 17 minutes of the stanza. Blake Perry came off the bench to score two goals, including one just 2:29 into the half, and Heath Creager scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
Air Force cut the lead to 3-2 when sophomore Colin Eames scored his seventh goal of the year with an assist from Sagastume in the 79th minute. That goal came with the Falcons down a player as freshman Duncan McNabb picked up his second yellow card of the game just seven minutes earlier.
The Falcons outshot San Diego State 15-10 in total shots, and held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. SDSU goalie Colin Hanke made seven saves, while Air Force's goalie Brian Dougal made two saves.
Air Force closes out its regular season this Sunday, Nov. 9 against the University of Denver in a game that will determine which team does not advance to the 2003 MPSF Tournament. Denver is currently 1-3-1 in conference play, good for four points. The Falcons, at 1-4, have three points. The winner of the game will advance to the tournament and the loser will not. In case of a tie, each team will receive one point, so Denver would advance. The game begins at 1 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
