Falcons Compete At All-Academy Championships

The Air Force men's gymnastics team travels this weekend after a brief hiatus to take on Army and Navy in the All-Academy Championship competition in Laguna Beach, Calif., at 8 p.m. (MST). The Falcons were last in action Jan. 24-25 when they hosted the Rocky Mountain Open and finished fourth with a team score of 196.375 behind The U.S. Olympic Training Center (221.050), the defending national champions Oklahoma (214.475) and Nebraska (206.550). Arizona State (188.500) and Washington (170.900) finished fifth and sixth respectively behind Air Force at the meet.
Senior team captain Aaron Jackson and junior Jeff Andersen have were the top finishers for the Falcons in their first week of competition and are expected to put up to big scores this weekend against Academy rivals Army and Navy. Jackson finished third on floor in the Rocky Mountain Open Individual Event Finals with a score of 8.900. Jackson also tied for fifth on vault with Oklahoma's Mike Gehart (9.150) and finished seventh on high bar (8.300) and ninth on rings (8.400). Andersen also finished strong for Air Force and took sixth on parallel bars (8.600).
The Falcons took third in last year's inter-service competition and finished with a team score of 201.250. Army captured the team title (203.225) while Navy finished second (201.500).
