Falcons fall to USD, 5-2

The University of San Diego men's tennis team defeated Air Force 5-2 Saturday, handing the Falcons their first loss of the 2003 season. The Toreros won the doubles point, then won singles matches at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots.
Leading the way for the Toreros was freshmen Pierrick Ysern. Ysern downed Eric Pittman at No. 2 singles by the score of 6-3, 7-5; and also teamed with Robbie Blair at No. 2 doubles for an 8-4 victory. Torero freshman Mirza Koristovic earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Martin Black, and USD freshman Nic Caldwell downed Tyler West at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Koristovic and Caldwell also teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. USD's other singles victory was turned in by freshman Nic Beuque, a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 winner over Tyler McClung at No. 3 singles.
Air Force freshman Shannon Buck improved to 5-0 with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 victory over Jason Pongruskul at No. 1 singles, while Justin Mancinelli won the No. 5 match, 6-4, 6-3.
Air Force battles UC Riverside on Sunday, Feb. 16.
