Falcons Fall to Cougars, 89-50

The Air Force women's basketball team was stunned by a sharp-shooting BYU team, falling to the Cougars 89-50. It was the Falcons third consecutive conference loss, as Air Force falls to 7-13 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Erin Thorn opened the game with a three-pointer and the Cougars never looked back. They gradually extended their first-half lead to 26 points, taking advantage of 13 AFA turnovers. Thorn notched 14 first-half points to give BYU the 44-18 halftime lead.
The second half was much like the first half, with the Cougars pouring it on. They used a stifling defense to force 27 Falcon turnovers in the game. BYU finished the game with 15 three-point field goals, the most surrendered by the Air Force defense this year. Thorn finished with 22 points. Danielle Cheesman chipped in 11 points, while Nancy Seljaas had 13.
Shawna Neff led all scorers with a career-high 24 points. Neff and Briana Thomas each had a team-high five rebounds, while the team was out-rebounded 36-24. The Falcons finished the game shooting 36.6 percent (15-of-41) from the field. They shot a season-high 70 percent (7-of-10) from beyond the arc.
The Falcons have never will return home to host New Mexico in the team's second meeting of the season. The game will be Saturday, Feb. 15th, and will be a 4 p.m. tip off. New Mexico won the first meeting at The Pit by a 36-point margin.
