Colorado Springs, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball coach Ardie McInelly signed a two-year contract extension this week, according to Director of Athletics Col. Randy Spetman. The two-year extension keeps McInelly under contract through the 2006-07 season. Financial terms of the deal will not be released.
McInelly guided the Falcons to a 7-21 overall record in 2002-03. The Falcons won their first conference game in two years and return 15 varsity players from a year ago, including junior LaToya Howell and seniors Amoy Jackson and Shawna Neff, an honorable mention all-conference selection.
Known for turning programs around, McInelly turned Idaho State into a winner before coming to the Academy. During her last year at Idaho State in 2000-01, she led the team to a 25-5 mark, including a perfect 18-0 mark in the Big Sky Conference. Her team also produced the nation's longest winning streak of 21 games. McInelly has an 87-107 career record in seven years as a head coach. She is 11-45 at Air Force in two seasons.
"My coaching staff and I are grateful to have the opportunity to represent such a fine institution," McInelly said. "My staff has done an excellent job recruiting and it will pay dividends over the next few years."
"I'm very excited to secure Ardie here for two more years," Spetman said. "She has done a tremendous job and is building a competitive women's basketball program at the Academy. We are a much improved program already under her leadership and I'm confident that will continue."
