Falcons Surrender 96 Points in Loss to BYU

The Air Force women's basketball team suffered its ninth consecutive loss, falling to BYU 96-55. The Falcons played tough for much of the first half, but the Cougars offensive fire power was too much in the end. The team falls to 7-19 overall and 1-12 in the Mountain West.
The Falcons stayed even with the Cougars for much of the first half. After falling behind 7-0, Air Force went on an 11-0 run to take the lead. At the nine-minute mark, the Falcons trailed by just one point when Kestlee Nelson made a three-pointer to extend the Cougar lead to four points. BYU slowly pulled away, hitting 60 percent (17-of-28) of its shots to take a 48-33 lead. Air Force shot a solid 50 percent for the half.
BYU continued its offensive dominance in the second half, shooting 57 percent (19-of-33) from the field. Senior Erin Thorn led the way with 21 points and nine assists. Ambrosia Anderson grabbed 10 rebounds. The 96 points is the most surrendered by the Falcons this season.
The Falcons finished the game shooting 37.5 percent (18-of-48). Shawna Neff led the Falcons in scoring with 19points. Freshman Briana Thomas, the team's leading rebounder, notched a team-high six boards. Jennifer Roesch added 10 points.
Air Force will finish out the regular season at home on Saturday, March 8th, when they face Utah. Tip off time is 1 p.m. The game will be a preview of the Falcons' Mountain West tournament first-round match up. The Falcons face the Utes on Wednesday, March 12th, in Las Vegas.
