USAF, Colo. - The Air Force men's lacrosse team continued to struggle offensively, scoring just two goals in a 7-2 loss to the No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes. The Falcons had several scoring opportunities, but a stifling Buckeye defense kept them out of the net.
"We had some great opportunities. We just didn't can our shots," said head coach Fred Acee. "I am proud of the way we played. Ohio State is a good team."
Ohio State started the scoring as Anthony Gilardi notched a goal less than two minutes into the game. The Falcons would answer with just 1:17 remaining in the quarter on a goal by Adam Gaudinski and the score was knotted at one apiece.
The Buckeyes would take a commanding lead, scoring two goals in the second quarter and two goals in the third. They would score their fifth consecutive goal midway through the fourth before Air Force's Dave Brown would end the Falcon scoring drought with a fourth quarter goal.
The Falcons' defense continued to shine, holding a high-powered Ohio State offense to just seven goals. Goalkeeper William Arnold made eight saves, while starters Nick Wzientek and Jared Brush made several stops.
The two goals tied the Falcons lowest scoring output of the season. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the Great Western Lacrosse League. They will play their final home game of the season on Sunday, April 20th against conference opponent Butler. Game time is noon MST.
