Last Time Out
The Falcons came out on top of an overtime battle with Bellarmine, 13-12, to win the first ASUN Conference game of the campaign.
The Falcons attempted a season-high 50 shot attempts and converted a season-high three extra man opportunities. They were nearly perfect in clearing the ball (23-24), failing just one clear in the fourth quarter.
Senior team captain and attack man Caelan Driggs put up an impressive six-goal performance capped with the game-winning goal. He attempted a season high 14 shots, nine coming on goal.
Senior midfielder Luke Vrsansky had a day, scoring three goals and an assist on a season-high eight shot attempts. Other goal scorers included seniors Cole Rassas (1g, 1a) and Ryan Stadelmaier (1g), alongside Lee Krotee and Charlie Pyfer with one apiece. Pyfer scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
Heating up!
After relatively quiet first half of the season— six goals in the first six games, Caelan Driggs has 17 goals in the last three games highlighted by a career high eight goals against Providence. He dropped three against Jacksonville and another six on the road at Bellarmine. He has five hat trick-plus games this season.
Driggs Aims for All-Time Goals Record
Senior attacker Caelan Driggs scored his 122nd career goal last weekend. Driggs is now second in the all-time goals category. Mike Crampton (2011-14) holds the record with 127 to his credit. Driggs also has 148 career points, ranking seventh all-time.
Cunningham Moves into the Record Book
C1C Cole Cunningham, a groundball vacuum, has moved into the all-time top 10 ground balls leaders. Cunningham, with 47 this season and 177 career ground balls, is now seventh most. His 85 ground balls last season were enough for sixth in single-season ground balls.
Vrsansky Contributes
Senior midfielder Luke Vrsansky has broken out as a key contributor to the AF offense heading into the conference slate. Vrsansky has scored eight goals in the last four games and has two hat tricks on the season.
Fantastic Freshman
C4C attack Christian Schweiger is a force to be reckoned with heading into conference play. A native of Lebanon, N.J., Schweiger is second on the team in scoring with 30 points via 17 goals and 13 assists. He has four hat tricks this season highlighted by three-goal games against No. 5 Duke and No. 10 Ohio State. He is the only Falcon to have tallied a point in every game of the season.
A Look Ahead
The Falcons return to USAFA to host Mercer for home finale and Senior Day, April 18. Action is slated for noon MT. The Falcons will honor 12 players and a pair of managers prior to the game.
