Air Force Announces 2003-04 Women's Basketball Schedule

Back-to-back games versus service academy rivals Army and Navy highlight the 2003-04 Air Force women's basketball schedule, released today by head coach Ardie McInelly.
The Falcons will play Navy in Annapolis, Md., in the last game of 2003 (Dec. 29). They then kick off the new year at home against Army (Jan. 2).
As opposed to last season, when the team played 10 of 12 games on the road, including a stretch of sixty days away from Clune Arena, the Falcons will play four consecutive and six of seven non-conference games at home.
"We have quite a few home games this season," head coach Ardie McInelly said. "We have one stretch where we play six of seven games at home. This is important in our development. It gives us a chance to get some wins on our home court.
The Falcons open the season against Texas Pan American in the first game of the Air Force Classic (Nov. 21st). They will then play either Boise State or Dayton the following day. After playing three consecutive road games against Illinois State (Nov. 26), New Orleans (Nov. 29) and Cal Poly (Dec. 4), the team returns home for a four-game home stand. They take on Illinois-Chicago (Dec. 6), New Mexico Highlands (Dec. 10), Northern Colorado (Dec. 18) and Portland (Dec. 21).
After returning from Christmas break, the team will immediately head to Annapolis to take on the Midshipmen. They return home to face Army followed by IUPU Fort Wayne (Jan. 7). The Falcons close out the non-conference schedule in Ogden, Utah, against Weber State (Jan. 10).
"We'd like to have a winning record heading into conference play," McInelly said. "Having to compete in one of the top six conferences in the country, we'd like to give our players experience and confidence before league play begins."
The Falcons kick off Mountain West Conference action at home against New Mexico, Jan. 17. They face Utah (Jan. 22) and BYU (Jan. 24) on the road, then return home to face UNLV (Jan. 29). The Falcons defeated the Rebels last season at home for their lone conference victory. They then face San Diego State (Jan. 31) before heading back on the road to take on Wyoming (Feb. 5) and in-state rival Colorado State (Feb. 7) to close out the first half of league play.
The second half of the conference schedule kicks off in Albuquerque, as the Falcons will be looking for their first-ever victory at The Pit when they take on New Mexico (Feb. 14). They return home to host BYU (Feb. 19) and Utah (Feb. 21), then head west to face San Diego State (Feb. 26). After playing UNLV (Feb. 28), the team finishes the season at home against Colorado State (March 4) and Wyoming (March 6).
