Falcons Head West For Competition At Cal-Berkeley

The Air Force men's gymnastics team continues on the road this weekend (Friday, Jan. 31), when they travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes California and No. 10 Stanford. The first event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at the Haas Pavilion on the campus of Cal-Berkeley.
CHECKING OUT THE COMPETITION
This is the first time that No. 16 Air Force has faced either the Bears or the Cardinal this season...Cal and Stanford faced off last weekend at the Pacific Coast Classic, where Cal topped Stanford 216.200-203.875...While this is only the Bears' second meet of the season, Stanford opened the season at Michigan, defeating the then-fourth-ranked Wolverines by a narrow 211.375-211.300 margin...
NEWS FROM THE MPSF
Senior Jeff Andersen is currently ranked second in the conference on the still rings with an average of 9.325...As a team, the Falcons are averaging 194.062 points a meet, which currently ranks them third in the MPSF following two weeks of competition...
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING
The Falcons opened the season hosting the Rocky Mountain Open...Air Force finished as the fourth collegiate team with a 192.850... Jeff Andersen and Greg Stine advanced to the event finals of the RMO...Andersen took second on the pommel horse...Andersen and Stine teamed up to lead the Faclons again at Oklahoma last weekend...Andersen tied for second on the still rings, while Stine claimed second-place outright on the parallel bars.
LOOK CLOSELY
Although the Falcons hold a 0-4 record against other NCAA teams, you have to stop and see who the Falcons have been competing against. Already twice in this short season, Air Force has faced the two-time defending national champions from Oklahoma - currently the fourth-ranked team in the country. The Falcons have also taken on Iowa (currently No. 5) and Nebraska (currently No. 7).

The men's gymnastics team has named seniors Jeff Andersen and Mike Berry as the co-captains for the 2004 season.
