BYU's Ambrosia Anderson notched a double-double to lead the Cougars to a 75-60 win over the Air Force women's basketball team Thursday at Clune Arena. Anderson, a graduate of Colorado Springs' Doherty High School, notched 11 points and 13 rebounds to help give BYU the victory. The Falcons fall to 3-19 overall and 0-9 in league play. BYU is 14-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
Despite the outcome, the Falcons kept the game close throughout most of the game. In the first half, Air Force jumped out to the early lead, holding a seven-point advantage at the 8:25 mark. BYU would bounce back and at the half led 34-28.
The Falcons gained some momentum early in the second half, cutting the deficit to just two points with 12:52 remaining in the game. BYU would call timeout and return to the court a different team. They used a 29-5 run to squash any Falcon hopes of the upset. The Falcons closed the game out on a 13-2 run, but it was too little, too late.
In addition to Anderson's 11 points, Ashleigh Chamberlain pitched in 12 points, while Julie Sullivan had 10 points, seven assists and three steals. The Cougars shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field.
The Falcons had three players finish in double figures in scoring. Shawna Neff scored 11 points to climb to 12th overall on the Academy's all-time career scoring list. Neff has 948 for her career and needs just 54 points to become the 10th player in school history and the first in the Division I era to crack the 1,000 point mark Letricia Castillo each had 12 points and Amoy Jackson chipped in 10, while freshman Jacki Novak scored a career-high nine points.
The Falcons will look to snap a 13-game losing streak on Saturday (Feb. 21) when they host league-leading Utah. Air Force is winless in team history against the Utah Utes. The Utes had a nine-game conference winning streak snapped at The Pit Thursday, with a 49-46 loss to New Mexico.
