Falcons Take On Top-10 Teams at the MPSF Championships

The Air Force men's gymnastics team heads to Stanford, Calif., for the 2004 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships on Friday-Saturday, March 19-20. The team and all-around championships will be contested on Friday, while the individual event finals will be held on Saturday. Both nights of competition begin at 7 p.m., in the Burnham Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University.
The Falcons, who are currently ranked 16th in the country will face off against four top-10 teams at the conference championships. Oklahoma leads the league with a Regional Qualifying Score of 220.342 and is ranked second nationally. California is ranked third with a RQS of 216.367. Nebraska and Stanford are ranked eighth and ninth, with respective scores of 213.417 and 212.750. Air Force rounds out the MPSF competition at No. 16 with a regional score of 204.483.
The Falcons are led by sophomore Greg Stine (Houston, Texas) and senior co-captain Jeff Andersen (Marietta, Ga.). Stine is tied for third in the league on the still rings (tied for ninth nationally) with a Regional Qualifying Score of 9.508. He is also ranked fifth in the MPSF all-around with a score of 53.125 - a mark that is 12th nationally. Andersen, who was recently named a finalist for the Nissen-Emery award as one of the nation's top senior gymnasts, is ranked fourth on the still rings (9.475) and sixth in the all-around (52.100).
