Falcons Open Competition at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Air Force track and field program opened competition at the 2004 Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday (March 26). The Falcons are some of 4,200 athletes that are participating in the national two day event at the Cobb Track and Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University.
Two members of the men's team finished second in their respective events. Sophomore Jason Jones (Park City, Utah) tied for second in the "B section" of the pole vault, with a height of 16'4?". That mark tied for the session's best height by a collegiate athlete and currently ranks eighth on the Academy's all-time list. Senior Chris Banks (Culpeper, Va.) placed second in the "B section" of the long jump, following a jump of 22'7?".
Junior Christian Morgan (Henderson, Nev.) joined Jones in the "B session" of the pole vault, where he finished third with a height of 15'9". Senior Anthony Park (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded recorded a third-place finish in the top session of the long jump, posting a distance of 23'2". Park's distance was the second-best mark by a collegiate athlete in that session.
Senior Sean Temple (Monument, Colo.) earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. With a time of 52.73, Temple recorded the third-fastest time by a collegiate athlete.
Two other members of the men's team recorded top-10 finishes. Junior Chris Gausepohl (Fallbrook, Calif.) finished seventh in the "B session" of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.84. Senior Luke Marker (Manson, Wash.) placed 10th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33. He and Temple, who finished 11th, with a time of 14.37, just missed the cut for the finals.
On the women's side, junior Jami Hodge (Sachse, Texas) recorded seventh-place finishes in both "B sessions" of the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Hodge crossed the finish line of the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.58 and concluded the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.66.
Junior Cindy Dawson (Yreka, Calif.) had the best finish of the night by a female Falcon - finishing fourth in the "B session" of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.29.
The Stanford Invitational concludes tomorrow (March 27) in Palo Alto, Calif.
