Five Falcons Earn Event Honors at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Five members of the Air Force track and field team won individual titles in seven events at the Mondrall Sperling Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday, May 1. Seniors Sean Temple (Monument, Colo.) and Anthony Park (Las Vegas, Nev.) each tallied a pair of event victories during the day.
Temple won both hurdle events and was one of three Falcons to finish within the top five in both events. Clocking a time of 14.02 during the 110-meter hurdles, Temple finished first, while fellow seniors Luke Marker (Manson, Wash.) and Jim Campbell (Portage, Mich.) finished fourth and fifth, with respective times of 14.35 and 14.49. In the 400-meter hurdles, Temple recorded a season-best time of 51.78 to claim first place, while Campbell finished fourth (52.55) and sophomore Kory Pearson (Beavercreek, Ohio) took fifth with a time of 52.90.
Park tabbed a winning distance in the long jump, posting a mark of 23'8?", while classmate Chris Banks (Culpeper, Va.) finished second with a distance of 23'6?". Fellow senior Nick Bromberek (Lemont, Ill.) finished fourth with a mark of 22'5". Park and Banks also teamed up for a one-two finish in the triple jump, as they recorded respective distances of 47'11?" and 47'10?".
Junior Paul Gensic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) led an event in which each of the top five spots were held by a member of the Falcon team. In the pole vault, Gensic topped out with a first-place height of 17'0?". Fellow junior Makisi Haleck (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) posted a mark of 16'8?" to finish second, while classmate Christian Morgan (Henderson, Nev.) finished third at 16'4?". Sophomore Jason Jones (Park City, Utah) took fourth at 16'1?" and freshman Wes Wilkening (Ulysses, Kan.) tied for fifth with a mark of 15'5?".
Sophomore Lindsay Grose (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led a 5000-meter run that featured four Falcons finishing within the top five. Grose clocked a time of 18:15.99 to win the event, while freshman Ashley Snyder (Pickerington, Ohio) finished second in 18:31.83. Senior Anne Chumlea (Enon, Ohio) rounded out the top three with a time of 18:38.89, while sophomore Andrea Pinchak (Shaker Heights, Ohio) claimed fifth in a time of 18:55.51.
Sophomore Dana Pounds (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) also earned a winning mark in the javelin throw, posting a distance of 169'10". Two other Falcons also tabbed top five finishes in the javelin, as junior Lacy DeWall (Bismarck, N.D.) and freshman Caitie Holliday (Kalispell, Mont.) finished fourth and fifth with respective marks of 137'2" and 132'7".
Several other Falcons tallied top-three finishes at the meet that featured teams from eight different universities and colleges.
Air Force took second and third in the discus throw, behind junior Dominique Boivin (Shoreline, Wash.) and Olivia Korte (Seneca, Kan.). Boivin threw a distance of 156'4", while Korte collected a mark of 154'0".
Junior Jami Hodge (Sachse, Texas) ran the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.22 to finish second, while freshman Margaret Frash (Newburyport, Mass.) earned second-place honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:26.25.
Junior Erin Richardson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took third in the pole vault with a season-best height of 11'4?" - the second-best height in Academy history. Freshman Dierra Poland (Deptford, N.J.) took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93.
On the men's side, junior Kyle Davidson (Houston, Texas) finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while freshman Abe Wengel (Menomonie, Wis.) took third in 9:37.59. Sophomore Troy Jensen (Santa Ana, Calif.) finished third in the 400-meter run at a season-best time of 48.09.
The Falcons return to the Academy for competition next weekend, when they host the Risdon Westen/Air Force Twilight Invitational on Friday, May 7, at the Falcon Outdoor Track. Several field events kick off the festivities at 3 p.m., while the first track event is scheduled for 4 p.m.
