INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Three members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team qualified for five events at the 2005 NCAA Championships on April 7-10, while a fourth is currently an alternate.
Sophomore Ryan Stromstad (Corona, Calif.) qualified to the national meet on the floor exercise and high bar, while serving as an alternate on the parallel bars. Junior Eric Peele (Bethel, N.C.) also qualified on the high bar, as well as the parallel bars, while freshman Nathan Glandon (Abilene, Texas) will compete on the floor exercise.
Individual competitors are selected based on the national qualifying scores (NQS) of those not on a competing team. Stromstad had the third-best individual qualifying score and the sixth-best high bar score, while Peele picked up the second-highest NQS on the parallel bars and the fifth-best mark on the high bar. Glandon recorded the fifth-best mark on the floor.
In addition, freshman Tyler Sickles (Mesa, Ariz.) is an alternate on the high bar.
The national qualifier will be Thursday, April 7, with the finalists advancing to the finals on April 8-9. The three-day meet will be held at the Holleder Center in West Point, N.Y., with the Black Knights of Army serving as the hosts.
