Cronican, Tomlin Advance to Round of 16 at Region Championships

Senior Keith Cronican and freshman James Tomlin advanced to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw Thursday at the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. The duo, seeded 13th at the tournament, downed Doug Alves and Trevor Thompson of Weber State, 8-2, in the second round.

Cronican and Tomlin, who advanced to the finals of the Balloon Fiesta Classic in Albuquerque two weeks ago, will face the eighth-seeded team of Blake Boswell and Eric Roberson from Boise State on Friday.

Senior Robby Alexander and freshman Brett Rodgers lost in the second round to the No. 3-seeded team of Dominik Kaufhold and James Ludlow of BYU, 8-4. The Falcon duo will play in the consolation round on Friday.

All four Falcons were eliminated from the singles bracket on Thursday. Alexander and Rodgers each won a consolation match before losing three-set matches to Michael Eraso of BYU (3-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Ravjot Dhatt of Denver (6-4, 1-6, 6-4), respectively. Cronican and Tomlin each lost his first consolation match of the day.
