INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Air Force sophomore Brian Boardman was added as an event specialist to the 2006 NCAA Men's National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships on March 30. Due to several changes on the original list, Boardman will represent the Academy on the parallel bars at the NCAA Championships, which will be held April 6-8 at the Lloyd-Noble Center in Norman, Okla.
Boardman, who holds a national qualifying score (NQS) of 7.770 has been one of the most consistent performers on the parallel bars for the Falcons this season. He set a season-best mark of 8.100 during the squad's Feb. 5 meet at Army. The score is just .100 off of his career-best total set last year as a freshman.
It is the first time in his young career that Boardman was chosen to compete at the national meet. He will join senior Brian Moore, who will be competing in the all-around. It is the second straight year that a member of the Falcons' program will participate in the parallel bars qualifier as an event specialist (Eric Peele in 2005).
Boardman will compete in one of two national qualifying sessions on April 6 (1 p.m. or 7 p.m.). He will be joined by competitors from the 12 qualified teams and the six at-large all-around competitors, as well as five other at-large parallel bars specialists. Boardman will be joined by three service-academy foes in Army's Eliot Proctor and Navy's Joseph Atzenbeck and Adam Stanton. Two other late additions, Illinois-Chicago's Alex Kadar and Springfield's Aric Hines will also compete in the event.
