Pacific Rolls To 3-0 Win Over Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Pacific broke open a close women's soccer match with a trio of second period goals to down Air Force, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The loss drops the Falcons to 0-3-1 on the season while Pacific improves to 4-0-0.
The match was an even, see-saw affair until the Tigers got on the scoreboard in the 58th minute. Mandi Van Dorn got the ball inside the left side the box and fired under the reach of Falcon goalkeeper Erin Wallace from 15 yards out. Jaime Souza and Carmen Padilla were credited with assists.
Pacific put the game away with goals in the 81st and 87th minute. Suzy Peterson scored the second goal on a free kick taken from just outside the top-left part of the box. Her shot deflected off the side of the AFA defensive wall and caromed into the lower left corner of the net.
The third goal came on a give-and-go from Van Dorn to Alysse Valenzuela. Van Dorn came into thebox from the left side and was able to get the ball past Wallace to Valenzuela, who tapped in on the open net from five yards out.
Pacific out-shot Air Force, 17-5, with Van Dorn getting seven shots off. Five different Falcons each had a shot. Pacific goalkeeper Jaime Souza had three saves in the shutout, while Wallace had five saves.
Air Force returns to action this Thursday, Sept. 7 against Cal at the St. Mary's Fall Classic in Moraga, Calif. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
