AROUND THE TRACK: The track events will begin at 12 p.m. with qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles. In all running events, the women will run first, followed by the men. WHO'S HERE: The Falcons will be joined by Division I teams from
THE NAMESAKE: Don Barrett has served as an Academy track official for nearly five decades. Barrett began officiating in 1956 and has spent most of that time as the head finish judge.
COMING UP: The Falcons remain at the Academy next weekend (Feb. 1-2), as they host the Air Force Invitational for the 17th consecutive year. The two-day event is slated to begin at noon with the men's weight throw and pole vault.
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST: The old adage states that `records are made to be broken'. And after 23 years, the longest standing field events record in Air Force women's team history was finally downed. Freshman Sara Neubauer threw a 47'2½" in the shot put to blast Mary Manning's Academy record. The distance topped the previous program standard of 45'5½" that was set back in 1984. In addition, Neubauer's mark crushed the Academy's Freshman Class record of 45'2½", which Manning had set in 1982.
JUST NOT SATISFIED: One week after setting the Sophomore Class record in the weight throw, Kirk Devine improved it. Throwing a distance of 58'9¼", Devine not only improved his personal best by over five feet, but recorded the second-best throw in Academy history.
WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA: Senior Olivia Korte, who finished sixth in the shot put, tossed a personal-best distance of 45'5", which is the second-best throw in Academy history. That mark would have nearly been a new Academy record ... had teammate Sara Neubauer not upped the standard just three throws earlier.
