DES MOINES, Iowa – A Drake Relays championship and Air Force record-setting performance in the men's sprint medley relay highlighted the final day of action in Des Moines this afternoon (April 25), as the track and field team wrapped up an impressive week of action at the 116th Drake Relays.
The quartet of senior Jettason Rose, sophomore Asher Jenkins, freshman Zachary DeWalt and junior Jonah Hochstetler used a program-record time of 3:16.72 to claim the Drake Relays' title in the sprint medley relay. The finish easily broke the Air Force Record of 3:19.33 that was set by the last team to win the SMR title at Drake (2019).
The men also collected a runner-up finish in the distance medley relay on Saturday, as the quartet of junior Dominykas Remeikis, freshman Colton Manock, senior Ethan Ashley, and classmate Ben Scheller combined for a 9:41.23 finish – the second-fastest time in Air Force history and the program's fastest time ever at the Drake Relays – to place second in the 14-team field.
In the women's only relay of the day, the all-junior lineup of Scarlet Fetterolf, Allison Fernstrom, Liliane Aittama, and Rachel Fereday used the fifth-fastest time in program history (11:25.17) to place eighth in the DMR.
The men placed fourth out of 19 teams in meet's Relay Cup standings, collecting 24 points (sprint medley relay: 10 points, distance medley relay: 8, 4x800-meter relay: 6) to earn the best finish from a non-P4 program. On the women's side, Air Force collected its first top-10 finish in the Relay Cup, as they placed ninth out of 22 teams, with seven points (4x800-meter relay: 6, distance medley relay: 1).
From the field, senior Texas Tanner recorded a throw of 19.13 meters (62'9¼") to finish second among 23 collegiate competitors in the shot put, while sophomore Morgan Glaser and freshman Cadee Alder earned seventh-place finishes in the Invitational sections of the high jump (1.73m/5'8") and javelin throw (45.23m/148'4"), respectively. Tanner, who was competing with the professionals in the World Athletics Continental Tour (WACT) section of the shot put, produced two throws that only trail his own Air Force Record on the program's all-time standings.
The Falcons are back in Colorado for the next two weeks, as they close out the regular season traveling to Fort Collins for the Doug Max Invitational on Saturday, May 2, and hosting the Air Force Twilight Open at the Academy's Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Friday, May 8.
