Air Force Opens MWC Play At TCU
The Air Force women's soccer team opens Mountain West Conference play this Saturday, Oct. 6, at TCU. Live stats and live video streaming will be available for the game at www.gofrogs.com.
Last Week
Air Force defeated North Dakota State, 5-1, and lost to UC Irvine, 2-1, last weekend, hosting the Falcon Invitational. The Falcons were named tournament champions, as all four teams in the tourney went 1-1, due to the first tie-breaker of most goals scored in the tournament. Junior Kristen Wolverton was named tournament defensive MVP.
TCU lost to Colorado College and defeated Houston last weekend.
Streaks
Air Force has a one-game losing streak. TCU, which plays a mid-week match vs. Prairieview A&M, has a one-game winning streak.
Last Meeting
Air Force and TCU played to a scoreless tie last year at the Academy.
Air Force-TCU Ties
Air Force has four players from the state of Texas. Christin Brodie (Flower Mound), Jess Brown (Canyon), Corbin Sanford (Lakeway) and Madison Schottleutner (McKinney) all call the Lone Star state their home.
TCU has three players on its roster from Colorado. Jenna Hayes (Longmont), Lesley Parkinson (Centennial) and Bree Marshall (Monument) hail from the Centennial state.
Coaches
Air Force is coached by Marty Buckley (Chico State, 1978) who is 110-173-19 in his 16th season at the Academy.
TCU is coached by Dan Abdalla (UNLV, 1997) who is 16-25-4 in his third year.
Series History
Air Force is 1-3-1 all-time against TCU. Air Force and TCU first played in 1996, a 2-0 Falcon win at the Academy. Air Force is 0-2 all-time against TCU in Fort Worth.
Five Goals Most Since 2002
After scoring just two goals in their first eight games of the season, the Falcons exploded for five goals in a 5-1 rout of North Dakota State. Junior Rachael Emory scored two goals and had an assist and senior Katherine Slogic also scored two goals. Senior Sean Henry scored the fifth goal with Ashley Collins assisting. The five goals were the most scored in a game by the Falcons since a 5-4 win over UNC-Greensboro on Oct. 4, 2002. The school record for most goals scored in a game was a 14-0 drubbing of Youngstown in 2000.
Air Force Team Leaders
Junior Rachael Emory leads the team with five points on two goals and an assist. Senior Katherine Slogic is tied with Emory for the team-lead with two goals. Junior Erin Wallace has started eight games at goalkeeper for the Falcons. Wallace has a 0.89 Goals Allowed Average to go with 24 saves in 812 minutes.
Scouting TCU
TCU enters the weekend with a 4-6 record. Freshman forward Jackie Torda leads the team with six goals and 14 points. Freshman Kelsey Walters has started six games at goalkeeper and leads the Frogs with a 1.51 GAA to go with 38 saves in 656 minutes.
Up Next
Air Force opens plays three matches next week. The Falcons play a make-up game against Northern Colorado, hosting the Bears on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. The Falcons also host San Diego State on Oct. 12 and Wyoming on Oct. 14.
