Air Force Gears Up for MWC Championships

ON YOUR MARK: The multi-events dominate the opening day and a half of the meet, as the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon take place. The women's weight throw and men's long jump kick off the individual events at 1 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 23), while the first track event (men's 5000-meter run) will take place at 1:30 p.m.
RETURNING CHAMPIONS: Two members of the squad will be out to defend their conference titles. Senior Brian Walsh won the heptathlon last year with an Academy record-setting performance, while junior Travis Picou claimed his second consecutive title in the 200-meter dash.
ALL-CONFERENCE ACCOLADES: In addition to the two champions, four other Falcons claimed all-conference honors, based on the placement in their respective events. Three of those athletes return to the track this year, in Devin Hart (long jump), Nick Luina (400-meter dash) and Kelly Robinson (mile run). The Falcons' other all-conference athlete from 2006, Mark Walter (mile run) graduated in May.
THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN: Backed by one winner and 18 scoring finishers, the Air Force men held off host
STOP THE PRESSES: The ink isn't event dry on the media guide, but this current crop of Air Force athletes have made significant impact on the program's history. Two Academy records, seven Class records and 22 all-time list incursions have been set in just the first five weeks of the season.
