Falcons Finish Second at Pacific Coast Classic

OAKLAND, Calif. - Competing in his first meet in over a month, junior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas) picked up a pair of top-10 finishes at the Pacific Coast Classic in Oakland, Calif., on Saturday, Feb. 24. Stine was one of five Falcons to earn top-10 marks, as Air Force finished second in the collegiate competition.

Air Force compiled a team score of 183.800, which was the second-highest collegiate score of the meet. Calgary won the meet with 187.550, while Australia's Victoria HP Centre (181.100) and Arizona State (173.750) rounded out the competition. In addition to the collegiate gymnasts, the meet featured numerous individual and Level 10 athletes which brought the field of competitors to 114.

Stine paced the Falcons with a pair of top-10 finishes, including a seventh-place score of a season-best 8.800 on the floor. In his first competition since the Rocky Mountain Open, he tied for ninth on the still rings with a score of 8.200, while also competing on the vault (7.400) and high bar (7.550).

Sophomore Jacob Schonig (Los Gatos, Calif.) also picked up a team-best seventh-place finish, as he scored an 8.300 on the still rings.

Air Force picked up a pair of top-10 marks on the high bar. Junior Tyler Sickles (Burke, Va.) paced the Falcons with an 8.200, while freshman Garrett Canter (Tallahassee, Fla.) tied for 10th on that event with a career-best 8.100. Canter also led the Falcons on the pommel horse with a score of 7.350.

Junior Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.) rounded out the Falcons' high scorers with a 7.750 on the parallel bars. In addition, Boardman posted the team's top mark on the vault, scoring a 7.900 to tie for 18th.

Nearly matching his personal-best score in the all-around, freshman Brennan Wolford finished 15th in the multi-event competition with a score of 44.650. Highlighting his afternoon were career-best marks in the pommel horse (6.500) and high bar (7.400).

Air Force has a busy week ahead, as it travels west for a pair of back-to-back meets. The Falcons open the busy weekend of competition on Thursday, March 1, at the Peter Vidmar Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. Following that meet, Air Force will head to Tempe, Ariz., for the Southwest Cup competition the very next night (March 2).
