Brian Walsh Currently in 12th at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Backed by three top-10 event finishes, senior Brian Walsh sits in 12th-place after the first day of decathlon competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., while freshman Nick Frawley finished 17th in the preliminary round of pole vault competition.
Accumulating 3748 points during the first five events of the decathlon, Walsh is currently in 12th-place - and just 10 points out of 11th. He opened the day with a pair of ninth-place finishes. Clocking a time of 11.14 in the 100-meter dash, Walsh following that up with a long jump distance of 11'9¼". He dropped in the overall standings after a 22nd-place finish in the shot put (37'2¼"), but quickly rebounded with a 12th-place clearance of 6'2¾" in the high jump. Walsh closed out the first day with his best finish (seventh), as he crossed the finish line of the 400-meter dash in 49.48.
Frawley, in his first national meet, tied for 17th after clearing a height of 16'4¾". That height matched for the third-best total of the day, as just one of the 26 competitors cleared 17 feet.
Walsh concludes decathlon competition tomorrow (June 7) with the final five events. Action begins at 10 a.m. (PST) at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in
