USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Fourteen home games, including four against in-state rivals, along with a 16-game Mountain West Conference slate, highlight the 2007-08 Air Force women's basketball schedule, released today by head coach Ardie McInelly.
After a home exhibition game against Regis University on Nov. 3, the Falcons officially open the season on Nov. 9, at Oklahoma State. The Falcons complete their season-opening trip at UMKC on Nov. 11, before returning home to host the University of Denver on Nov. 16. After spending Thanksgiving in New York, taking on St. Francis College (Nov. 21) and Army (Nov. 23), the Falcons return home for the 12th-annual Air Force Classic. The field for this year's tournament, held Nov. 30-Dec. 1, includes Hampton, Ohio and Utah Valley State.
"Its another strong and challenging schedule, especially early in the season with trips to Oklahoma State and Wisconsin," McInelly said. "With the newcomers our staff has assembled, along with our returning core, we feel that we have a good opportunity to do well in non-conference play and build and prepare towards an ever-challenging conference schedule."
Another road swing follows for Air Force, which visits Northern Colorado (Dec. 5) and 2007 NIT runner-up Wisconsin (Dec. 8). The Falcons then return home to take on Cal State Stanislaus (Dec. 11) and in-state rival Adams State (Dec. 21). Following the holiday break, Air Force will square off against service-academy rival Navy on Dec. 29 before opening MWC play hosting Utah (Jan. 9).
The MWC slate will be played mostly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After hosting Utah, the Falcons hit the road to take on UNLV on Jan. 12. Air Force then hosts Wyoming (Jan. 16) and New Mexico (Jan. 19) before hitting the road to take on Colorado State (Jan. 23) and BYU (Jan. 30). The Falcons open February with home games against TCU (Feb. 2) and San Diego State (Feb. 6).
The back-half of the conference schedule kicks off at Utah (Feb. 9), followed by a home game against UNLV (Feb. 13). Air Force then hits the road to take on Wyoming (Feb. 16) and New Mexico (Feb. 20). The Falcons then host in-state rival Colorado State on Sunday, Feb. 24 in a game that will be televised live on the Mountain Sports Network (Mtn.). The Falcons close their home portion of the schedule on March 1, against BYU. Air Force then brings the regular season to a close with road games at TCU (March 5) and San Diego State (March 8). From there, the Falcons head to the Mountain West Conference Championships , which are scheduled to take place March 11-14 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
