Falcons Give Doug Hill First Career Win

The Air Force men's soccer team gave head coach Doug Hill his first career victory Friday night by defeating Birmingham-Southern, 2-0, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Hill, who was hired in June, was an assistant at Air Force for 13 seasons prior to his promotion. AFA and BSC are both 1-2 this season.
The Falcons struck in the 15th minute when Ian Hauck put home a shot from about six yards after BSU goalie Joe Nasco saved a shot by Falcon Josh Rhynard. Rhynard broke free behind the Panther defense and took a shot from about 18 yards that Nasco got a hand on, but deflected it to an attacking Hauck in front of the net.
On the play, Nasco suffered an apparent shoulder injury after diving for Hauck's shot and hitting the ground. He laid on the field for approximately 20 minutes before he was transported off the field in an ambulance.
John Halbert replaced Nasco and gave up Air Force's second goal in the 22nd minute when junior Jason Dall took a corner kick from Chris Mathews and placed a shot just under the crossbar past Halbert.
The Falcon defense took over from there, allowing BSC just six total shots and only one shot on goal. Senior goalie Brian Guyette posted the seventh shutout of his career in gaining his first victory of the season.
Air Force, which had 13 shots overall and eight on goal, hosts St. Francis University on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
