Freshman Kyle Schafer scored the first goal of his career and Air Force posted its second consecutive shutout Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over St. Francis University in men's soccer action at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, Air Force improved to 2-2 this season, while St. Francis fell to 1-3.
Schafer's goal came with just eight seconds remaining in the first half. The Colorado Springs, Colo., product took a long crossing pass from sophomore Kevin Rosser and put an eight-yard shot through the legs of SFU goalie Brad Williams. It was AFA's only shot on goal of the game and Rosser's first point of his career.
St. Francis' best opportunity of the game came with 33rd minute when Jarron Brooks broke free down the right side and placed a shot from 10 yards past AFA keeper Brian Guyette, but junior defender Jason Dall was on the goal line and kicked it away. The Red Flash had three shots on goal but was outshot, 9-8, in total shots by the Falcons.
Guyette made two saves in posting his second consecutive shutout and has a scoreless streak of 218 minutes and 16 seconds. Williams did not make a save for SFU.
Air Force heads back out on the road next weekend with a pair of games in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons battle Marist on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. (ET), then play service-academy rival Army on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. (ET).
