USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team opened the 2008 season with a close 189.275-186.100 loss to Centenary on Friday, Jan. 18, in the Academy's Cadet West Gym. Sophomore Michelle Denise was one of the top scoring Falcons, taking the team's highest marks on the vault, uneven bars and all-around.
Denise placed second in all three events, tallying 9.650 on the vault, 9.575 on the uneven bars and 37.300 in the all-around. In addition, Denise picked up a top-five finish on the balance beam, posting a score of 9.575 to take fifth.
Freshman Brittany Dutton had a strong debut for the Blue and Silver. Dutton scored a team-leading 9.700 on the balance beam to place third, while also adding a third-place mark on the uneven bars (9.475). Fellow freshman Lisa Wong and junior Abigail Rogers tied for third on the floor exercise, as each gymnast garnered a score of 9.500. Rogers also scored a 35.625 in the all-around to place third.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, Jan. 20, for another dual meet. Action begins at 1 p.m., in the Academy's Cadet West Gym.
